The rest of 2007

    Goals:
  • naught, besides getting away from writing the thesis!

2007-02-04 Corner Lake

A spot of Burbot fishing... I managed to catch a personal best burbot (after fishing for the bastards for decades!). Thanks to Nicke I got a splendid photo of it too! "Move closer Nicke" "Nah, I can't fit all of it on the screen if I move closer" "Sure?" "Very sure"

A burbot
The result(!) - he should've moved closer in!

2007-03-04 Corner Lake

Another spot of Burbot fishing (on the same spot, though). This time during a lunar eclipse. Burbot are creatures of the night, and hate light (even moon-phases tend (or seem) to affect them) so I figured that what better time than during the "no moon"-phase? As the moon started to disappear I got more and more tense - waiting for the monster to bite.

Lunar eclipse
Shaky picture of the eclipse.

Burbot are very unpredictable though, and no burbot appeared... Until the moon re-appeared. Damn. The story would have been better had the bastard taken during total darkness.

The yearly zander fishing. Too windy for enjoyment. Too windy.

First carp of the year! Cast a stringer out into the middle of nowhere from spring pitch.

Spring pitch
Spring pitch.

And was away... The carp was a very special carp - my first of the season AND my first carp ever (caught it some 10 ys previously).

Second days carping, second carp of the year. To be continued.

Wet net!

2007-05-20 Willow Lake

Last year Oskar caught the fattest carp I had ever seen. This day Jörgen caught the same fish - at roughly the same length - a few kilos heavier!

What splendid fish!
High-backed and broad-shouldered.

Time for the yearly trip for tench. A (too) warm spring lured the tench into an early spawning frenzy - which meant hard going... Small baits (preferably maggots) presented slightly off-side from the spawning grounds proved to be a winning formula. Still, it took me a few days to remember HOW to actually fish for tench!
Jörgen caught a nice fish early on...
But I remembered after a while and started catching a few - naught like earlier years though.
A spawned out formerly big fish.
I caught my fish a good bit from the spawning grounds!
Over a mussel/shrimp-laced groundbait mixture
Another spawned out (former) lump. Then Oskar started catching them big time!

Another one for Oskar
Even Jörgen caught another...
And yet another for Oskar
Nice place...

During the stay we also held the Yearly RUSTIK (Crucian Study Group) meeting. And I had a goose land on my groundbait bucket... In the boat, in almost total darkness. I tried to grab the camera, but scared the critter off in the process.

2007-06-20 Willow Lake PB

Fished a short afternoon session after an intense pre-baiting programme. Something belted off after a short while, and after a hard fight I could lift a fairly nice carp. Not large, but my largest off Willow Lake to data. Nice.

A nice carp!

2007-06-23 Visit from an old friend

Fished with Jörgen. When it got dark we resigned to the notion that we wouldn't catch anything... Then I got a breamy sort of take. The fight was very strange, with the fish kiting on the surface - with little gusto. In the net I recognized Quasimodo. One of my favourite carp! Though it had now turned blind on both eyes (instead of the former one). Might explain the poor fighting spirit.
Poor blind Quasimodo!

2007-07-21&22 Hutpond

Trip to the syndicate. Kalle already had one waiting for us in the sack...

An old common

I had naught in my swims... But Nicke had a run on the morrow. The run resulted in (yet another) splendid common.

An old warrior (with a carp)!

It looked on fire in the morning light!

2007-08-12 Redmyre

Fishing after an extensive (and a bit expensive) prebaiting campaign. LOADS of boilies and particles spread over a decent sized area.

Oskar caught a fantastic common

It had grown a bit since it last graced a landing net!

And an ugly one...

And Kangas' Queen.
Returned

Though I didn't fare so well (at all well, in fact).

2007-08-19 Redmyre

After yet more pre-bait... Oskar caught a huge-looking carp. Turned out to be a long lean male.

Lean fighting machine! Then he got another take. And we could glimpse something really strange in the water. Something blue. And red. And white?! What the?!

A koi!
The koi

Still nu luck(?!?!?) for me though.

2007-08-22 Redmyre - last trip

Me and Oskar tried one end, and Conti-Conny the other. It turned out to finally be my turn to 'ave a few. On stringers a bit off-side.
Conti-Conny

A wee carp recognized from last year.

Kangas' queen (again)

Oskar caught one too

2007-09-30 Roach Lake

I, Oskar, and Got-Erik The Young fished for a night. Me and Oskar had several carp on our baited spots. Got-Erik had naught. Still, at dawn I head a stuttering take from his end. I ran (as best I could) there to see what was a-foot. Got-Erik had gone and caught on of the most beautiful carp I have ever seen - and in splendid autumn colours too!
